At the Launch Pad

Volver has joined the 120 other boats in the Salty Dawg fleet in Hampton Virginia after a sweet sail from Yorktown.  We left before Sunrise, much to the Captains chagrin.  Remind me why we are leaving before the sun comes up, he asked.  The first mates answer was:  you know how readily an eight hour sail can turn into a 10 hour sail, and then we are sailing into an unknown harbor at night, generally recognized as unwise.  But the current was fast and favourable and the wind was behind us and we registered 9.2 nautical miles per hour on our GPS.   Hence, we were safely at our berth by noon.

Sunrise on the Chesapeake

The first thing we did when we got here was buy a space heater.  When we woke up that morning (a week ago) it was 6 degrees outside and 11 degrees in our boat.  Cold!  But it is 22 degrees this morning with a planned high of 28!  A prelude for the weather to come!

Leaving at Dawn wearing foulies and life jacket!

We plan to leave this cold behind. This is a short post.  We have a long list of errands including buying our fishing gear and picking up our new fridge and installing it and making room for our crew who arrive tomorrow.  We are still in a WIFI dead zone and may not enter another post until we get to the Bitter End.  That is the Bitter End Yacht Club, in the BVIs, which I Suspect will be SWEET!
